Thanks for visiting Old Book Journals, where we give new life to old books!
Our mission is simple — to find books that are too distressed or decayed to be repaired; and turning them into a fantastic recycled journal for people who will really appreciate them. I hope that these altered books find homes we they are truly enjoyed.
This site is a natural extension of my custom framing business. It started when I came across a box of books from the 1900′s at a yard sale. The spines where torn or missing — and pages were falling out after years of neglect, but the illustrations were so beautiful, I bought the whole box and framed most of the drawings.
I was never able to toss the left-over covers though — and eventually had the idea to bind them with card stock for my kids to use as their own personal journals — for drawing, doodling, writing or whatever… We have been “rescuing” neglected books ever since!
This approach has several benefits:
- It helps the environment, by reusing materials that are otherwise destined for landfills.
- It provides a unique writing space for someone with an eye for special things.
- Every journal we create is hand made and a one-of-a-kind work of art.
